Having Indian references isn’t enough in video games, we need a whole stack of characters with proper representation and Riot understands this and the nuances of taking up such projects. Valorant is filled with agents that come from places other than the US borders and Harbor is the latest entry to the roster. Varun Batra aka Harbor is an Indian agent in Valorant capable of manipulating water and is a controller in Valorant.
Harbor’s abilities are very similar to Viper and according to the devs, he’s here to give players a choice other than Viper. The three abilities include creating a water wall that can be moved and curved around as per your will to block angles in interesting ways. The other is a smoke and a shield combined. The shield on the smoke has a health stack so enemies need to empty a generous amount of their magazine to bring it down. The other is like a wave which moves through walls and slows enemies that get washed by it. It can also be stopped to create a wall. Enemies can move in and out through all of Harbor’s abilities. Even the Ultimate is like a massive circular pool that slowly moves forward. Enemies caught in it are stunned repeatedly forcing them to keep moving quickly to avoid the stun. We had early access to Harbor so you can check out the full video of his abilities here.
There’s also a dedicated song and whole backstory lore to Harbor’s entry into the Valorant universe. Like all things Riot, the devs have chalked out Harbor’s personality, likes, dislikes and various other nuances that make the character unique. The man likes cutting chai and is from Mumbai, nice! You can argue that he looks a bit too much like Ranveer Singh, right? There will be more community support in India from Riot as well with eSports tournaments and fan/community events.
