New Homepage, character limit and verification process: Big changes headed Twitter's way

Keeping up with the twits…

Since the Twitter takeover is underway, let’s get you up to speed with all the comments and promises the newest Twitter King has made with regard to the various modifications to the platform.

It all started with the changes to the homepage. Within 24 hours of his 44 billion dollar acquisition, the changes made include - users who are logged out will be redirected to the Explore page which displays an array of the top and trending tweets as well as news stories, instead of a login page which encouraged more user sign-ups.

Musk is also believed to be evaluating the content moderation and de-platforming policies and has decided to form a special committee. He tweeted that under his leadership, "Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints”. Additionally, “No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes.” He later clarified that no changes to the content moderation policies have been made so far.

Now that’s all pretty standard really. Here’s where it gets really interesting… the ‘Chief Twit’ is planning to turn Twitter Blue, the social network’s $4.99 (approx. ₹400) per month subscription plan into a $19.99 per month plan (approx. ₹1600). This will be the exclusive method for verifying users, according to the report. Users who are currently verified will be given 90 days to sign up for a paid subscription, in order to retain the blue-check status.

While this change hasn’t been confirmed as yet, Musk has hinted that the whole process is being revamped in his reply to a tweet. So let’s see if any of these changes make it to the platform eventually.

Lastly, and probably most important of all  Twitter could soon be expanding or getting rid of the 280-character limit, which the platform is well, known for. This seems to be in the works based on Musk’s tweet, in response to a tweet where he was asked if we can get rid of the character limit, or at least expand it, Musk replied, "Absolutely".

So big changes may be headed our way and the face of Twitter could be having quite a facelift.
