Blendjet 2 review: What is it?

Blendjet 2

A simple blender might not typically be something you expect to read gadget reviews about, but the Blendjet 2 is no simple blender. It’s designed to be portable and functional on the go, as well as easy to store and carry when not in use. It isn’t too big, and you can pretty much take the entire device with you to the gym or on your runs. If you’ve got the carry pouch, it’s even easier to take it along, provided you’re using the standard single-serving container.

The Blendjet 2 might be marketed at smoothie enthusiasts, but that isn’t the only thing you can use this personal and portable blender for. While the blades are made to chop up solids such as fruits while simultaneously mixing them up, you can also use it for liquids, ready-to-mix smoothie packets, cocktails and mocktails, or even food mixes such as pancake batter or sauces and dips.

Interestingly, there’s also an element of style to this, with the Blendjet 2 available in 28 different colours and designs. Whether you prefer solid colours, metallic finishes, or fun Disney prints, there are various options to choose from, with prices ranging from Rs. 2,999 to Rs. 3,999 depending on the colourway you choose.

The standard sales package includes the Blendjet 2 with the regular 470ml jar, and a USB Type-C cable to charge it. Accessories are sold separately, including that large 590ml jar, the extra-large 945ml jar, the insulated sleeve for the 470ml jar and blender, as well as replacement 470ml jars and gaskets. The jars also come with their own lids, of course.

Blendjet 2 review: How does it work?

The Blendjet 2 is surprisingly easy to use, and doesn’t take much to keep clean and have it ready to go for the next time. One you load up the ingredients of your smoothie or mix, a single press of the button runs it for a 20-second cycle. You can also switch to pulse mode, and keep the button pressed for a bit of manual control over the blending process.

Depending on your ingredients, you may need to run the Blendjet 2 for more than one 20-second cycle. Liquids and semi-solids aren’t too much of an effort for the blender, but the more solids you toss it, the more likely it is to need more cycles to properly blend up everything. Soft fruits such as bananas and lychees were easy to mash up, while others such as apples needed a bit more effort.

It isn’t really a replacement for a corded blender, which typically comes with more power and accessories such as blending jars. However, the Blendjet 2 has the advantage of size, portability, and ease of use just about anywhere. You can use it for regular household requirements, but it’s really meant for personal use, for juices, smoothies, milkshakes, and the like.

I did use it to make pancake mix and a chip dip on occasion, but it’s best used to blend together fresh drinks. Any of Milk, water, ice, and sugar can be tossed in with one or two major fruit ingredients, eggs, or anything similar, producing good results with one or two 20-second blend cycles. If you’re making something for yourself, you can drink straight out of the jar on the go, making it ideal to carry along to the gym or even on treks and drives.

Cleaning the Blendjet isn’t difficult at all, since all the components are understandably water resistant. You can wash it normally by hand without needing to worry about any of the components including the USB Type-C charging port, but it isn’t recommended to put this into a dishwasher or even submerge it completely in water. Alternatively, add water and liquid soap directly into the Blendjet 2 and let it run for a cycle to clean it up, after which you only need to wash the soap away.

The Blendjet 2 has a 4,000mAh battery which ran for 18-20 of the default 20-second blend cycles on a single charge. Topping up the battery is as easy as plugging it into your USB Type-C charger; either use the included cable, or even connect the blender to your smartphone charger.  A full charge takes around an hour, with indicator lights on the blender letting you know when it’s charged. Just make sure you aren’t charging it while there’s water in the port.

Verdict

The Blendjet 2 is incredibly convenient, looks good, and is easy enough for just about anyone to operate. However it’s also quite expensive, and not necessarily as powerful and capable as a corded blender for certain tasks. It fits into a niche of use cases, particularly if you need something portable or want the benefit of not having to plug in. As such, it’s great for personal requirements and small blending tasks, particularly the smoothies that it’s best known to work with.
